The Scottish Colourists – Peploe, Fergusson, Hunter & Cadell. One of the famous four – George Leslie Hunter (1877-1931). Brought up in California, Hunter’s first one man show was at the Reid Gallery Glasgow in 1916. Hunter lived and worked in France, London and California he had shows with the other colourists but bouts of ill health forced his return to Scotland. In his last trip to Glasgow, in 1930, he met Professor Hendry MBE (a surgeon who devoted his life to the study of obstetrics) and painted this strong portrait. Hunter died in Dec 1931. Signed oil on canvas 30” x 25”.
