'The French Lady' by Mike Francis
Mike Francis was born in the West Country in 1938. He studied at St Martins and Central School of Art. Initially working as a commercial illustrator, before his first solo exhibition in 1964, at the Furneaux Gallery London. Since then he has had numerous successful shows in U.K. France and U.S.A. Influenced by Edward Hopper, Francis loves painting a narrative for the viewer to unpick and interpret - his work blurring the lines between real and imaginary. Here the young French lady sits between her village and the beach... Oil on canvas 40” x 30” circa 2002.
