‘The Cabinet’ by Lord Ayshford Methuen RA 1886-1974.
The 4th Baron Paul Ayshford Methuen’s family seat was Corsham Court in Wiltshire, where this picture was painted. ‘The Cabinet ‘in question rather hidden by one of Methuen’s favourite plants. Paul Methuen studied drawing at Ruskin collage and painting under Walter Sickert; established himself as a serious artist. He served in both World Wars, being commissioned as a war artist in 1940. His works are held in several public collections. He was an RA and trustee of the Tate and National Galleries. Signed circa 1931, oil on canvas 29” x 20” in 18th century frame.
