Robert Lenkiewicz 'Death and the Maiden'
Robert Lenkiewicz 1941 – 2002 was a dedicated figurative artist and true eccentric. He was born in London, the son of Polish and German parents. He attended St Martins and The Royal Academy but his main influences were the traditional paintings in The National Gallery. Lenkiewicz subjects were societies down and outs, whom he painted and supported all his life. In 1974 he began to be recognised by the establishment with the painting of a giant mural at Plymouths Barbican. A retrospective exhibition was held in 1994. His works are held in several public collections
