'Isle of Skye' by Robert Borlase Smart
Robert Borlase Smart R.O.I. R.B.A. (1881-1947). Borlase, lived in St Ives and was a great painter of the sea - and here the dramatic mountains of Syke. This magnificent, large oil on canvas was painted during the 1930’s when Borlase and many of his contemporaries were commission by the railway companies to paint pictures to advertise the company’s destinations. The strong exaggerated colours in this painting, are typical of the stylish posters of the period. Size: 40” x 50”. Borlase exhibited at the R.A. at the Paris Salon. His works are held in several public collections.
