Katharine Church portrait of Niomi Maiden
Katharine Church 1910-1999 painted this stunning (oil on board 20” x 24”) portrait of Niomi Maiden in 1936. Born in London, Church studied at Brighton and the Royal Academy Art schools - followed by the Slade. She was greatly influenced by her friend Ivon Hitchens. Her first solo exhibition was at the Wertheim Gallery Harrogate in 1933; followed by three shows at the prestigious Lefevre Gallery in London. (This picture is possible from the first of those in 1937). Church continued to paint and exhibited though out a long career; Her work is held in museums and public galleries in the UK.
