Marjorie Sherlock 'Rhone Valley'
Marjorie Sherlock (1897-1973), the ‘Rhone Valley’ oil on canvas 18" x 26" circa 1938. This interesting sparse almost ‘Cubist’ depiction of a peasant tending his land, with Oxon and goats nearby and the village with the river Rhone in the background - has perhaps a portent of the war and the changes to rural life that were to overwhelm France in the next few years.Sherlock studied art under the Camden Town group of painters and at the Royal Collage of Art. She exhibited pictures at the Royal Academy for over 50 years. Her works are held in museums in Europe, as well as the UK.
