Lucy Harwood 'Rooks'
Strong naive style painting by the wonderfully eccentric East Anglian artist - Lucy Harwood (1893 -1973). Initially Harwood was going to be a pianist but after an operation left her partially paralysed - she turned to painting. She studied briefly at the Slade, before at the age of 43 joining the East Anglian Art School run by Cedric Morris. Here she blossomed mixing with other artists such as Maggie Hambling and the young Lucien Freud. Her work and individualism was greatly admired by her fellow artists . A commemorative exhibition was held in Colchester 1975. Oil on canvas 26.5" x 21".
